Bubble wrap is an irreplaceable protective material, enabling effective protection of items during transport, storage or renovation. The characteristics of the bubble wrap are so universal that it can also be used for less obvious purposes. So let’s take a look at what exactly bubble wrap is, what are the types of bubble wrap and in what situations it is worth using.
The history of bubble wrap
You probably don’t know it, but the bubble wrap invention was a coincidence. Its genesis dates back to 1957, and the story begins with the unsuccessful project of two engineers – Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes, who worked on the creation of a plastic wallpaper. Only a plastic film filled with air bubbles escaped from the machine that was to produce wallpaper on a paper substrate. Fortunately, engineers saw the potential of this mistake and soon they a new invention that revolutionized the shipping industry with the world.
Properties of bubble wrap
The bubble wrap is light, flexible and resistant. It adapts perfectly to the items wrapped with it and effectively protects them against destruction, damage, moisture, dirt, sunlight and exposure to sunlight. And most importantly, the bubble wrap perfectly absorbs and insulates the items it protects.
In the production of bubble wrap, we do not use harmful substances and fragrances, which makes it possible to protect literally everything!
Types of bubble wrap
Bubble wrap comes in 2-layer and 3-layer form. In addition, we distinguish the division of the bubble wrap due to its tear resistance. 2-layer films are characterized by its stickiness and flexibility, which means that they perfectly protect products with irregular shapes, also we do not need adhesive tape for packaging. They are available in class B1 (light) and B2 (standard).
3-layer films are available in grades B3 (strong) and B4 (super strong). B3 foil is recommended for the protection of heavier objects, e.g. furniture. B4 foil is often referred to as garden foil and is characterized by large bubbles. The last type of bubble wrap is antistatic foil, which is perfect for securing electronic products.
Bubble wrap is available in various sizes and forms, such as:
– foil wound on rolls,
– bubble wrap bags,
– bubble envelopes,
– bubble wrap sleeves,
– bubble spacers.
Thanks to this, the use of bubble wrap is very diverse.
Where is bubble wrap used?
Bubble wrap as a packing material
You can use bubble wrap not only to wrap the items you send, but also to fill any empty spaces in the package. Importantly, bubble wrap is very light and does not affect the shipping costs of the packages it protects.
You can protect both small and larger items with the bubble wrap. Use a 2-layer film for lightweight products, and a 3-layer film for heavier products. However, for shipping electronics, including: TV sets, computers, audio equipment, CD / DVDs, components and other electronic accessories, choose anti-static bubble wrap.
You can send small items in bubble envelopes, which significantly improve the packaging process and shipping costs.
Bubble wrap as protection for renovation and removal
Our bubble wrap will allow you to effectively protect the apartment during renovation. The foil is impermeable to moisture and dust, it also guarantees safe transport of furniture, ceramics and lamps.
Bubble foil as thermal insulation
Due to its insulating properties, bubble wrap is often used for thermal insulation of walls and roofs. Thanks to the usage of bubble wrap, the thermal resistance of the material increases and the energy is reflected rather than absorbed.
Bubble wrap in gardening
The bubble wrap can be used to create tunnels, thanks to which plants mature and grow faster. In addition, securing plants with our bubble wrap protects them against harsh weather conditions, which is especially useful in the case of forest nurseries.
Bubble wrap as a stress release
The conducted research shows that a minute of tapping a bubble wrap can provide us with relaxation comparable to the one that gives us a half an hour of body massage or eating a square of chocolate. Scientists conclude that the anti-stress properties are due to the effect of the bubble wrap on our stimuli: touch, vision and hearing. Pressing a delicate air bubble with our finger, combined with watching it tighten and finally burst, making a characteristic “pop” sound. The whole experience allows us to concentrate fully on the snap and gives us a sense of satisfaction. This is a great way to calm down your thoughts and relax after a hard day!
