Stretch foil - properties

Protective stretch foil is widely used to wrap loads on pallets, which makes it one of the basic tools used in transport-forwarding-logistics sector. It is a cheap and efficient material used to stabilise and secure the load during shipping and storing. An item tightly wrapped in foil is protected against moisture, stains and rainfall.

Parameters:

  • Colour:
  • Type:
  • Width:
  • Thickness:
  • black, white, transparent, blue
  • manual, machine
  • 10 - 500 mm
  • 9 - 30 μm

Advantages of stretch foil:

  • Low cost,
  • Easy application due to dispensers,
  • Comprehensive use,
  • Elasticity and stretch – fits to irregular shapes,
  • Viscosity – layers of foil adhere to one another and create seamless, stable surface without any adhesive tapes,
  • Transparency makes it easy to see the content of the load,
  • Resistance to patches, mechanical damage, moisture and low temperatures.

      Manual stretch

Manual stretch rolls can be used manually or with a dispenser.
      stretch maszynowy

      Machine stretch

Machine stretch film is a large roll, which is used for the machine securing the pallet - such a solution accelerates the process of securing loads.
      stretch power

      Power and super power stretch

Our offer includes stretch film with extremely high stretchability - from 150 to 300%.

      Types of stretch foil

We offer our Clients different variants of stretch foil. On our offer there are foils of different levels of stretchability, durability and viscosity, available in weight ranging from 7 to 30 microns. Protective foil is typically transparent, but we also offer this product in colours (white, blue, black) to mask the elements underneath.

Protective foil comes as manual stretch, machine stretch and mini-stretch with or without a handle. We also offer dispensers for stretch.

      Manual stretch foil:

      • typically sold in multipacks of 6 rolls, 1 to 3 kg each (or other, depending on the tube weight),
      • available in weight between 7 and 30 microns,
      • 4 colour variants: transparent, white, black and blue.

      Machine stretch foil:

      • it features distinctive resistance to patches and tear,
      • varied thickness – from 7 to 30 microns and stretchability from 150 to 300% (stretch power and superpower),
      • transparent and black variants available,
      • sold in kilograms.

      Mini-stretch foil:

      • perfect for smaller loads and manual application,
      • possibility to buy a handle which facilitates the application of foil and increases the safety of packing,
      • two roll widths available – 10 cm and 25 cm,
      • varied levels of stretchability.

      Application of stretch:

Due to variety of foils (different roll widths, application methods, colours and stretchability of the material) stretch is applied in almost every branch of industry – wherever it is essential to secure the load efficiently, quickly and cost-effectively.

      NEW - Coreless stretch film!

Coreless stretch film eliminates the problem of having to dispose of cores. With high usage of this material, cardboard cores become a real challenge, generating costs. Our clients are increasingly opting for this solution, as it is more environmentally friendly while still providing the same level of product protection as traditional stretch film (with a core).

      Parameters

      • Thickness:
      • 12 do 30 µm
      • Width:
      • 500 ± 5mm
      • Recycling:
      • 100% recyclable
      • Type:
      • Hand and machine stretch film

Benefits of using coreless stretch film:

      • You pay only for the film itself (without the core).
      • You don't have to store and dispose of cardboard waste.
      • You reduce environmental fees.
      • You effectively protect products – it is strong, economical, and versatile.

      FAQ

What is stretch film used for?

The main use of stretch film is to secure and stabilize loads. It is used to wrap goods on pallets, preventing them from shifting during transport. It protects them from tipping over, mechanical damage, and moisture. As a versatile material, it is also used for collective packaging or protecting individual products from dirt and moisture. Additionally, different colours of film can be used to differentiate products in a warehouse.

What are the properties of stretch film?

Stretch film is made from polyethylene granulate (LLDPE), which allows for high stretchability, making it an ideal material for wrapping and securing loads. It is resistant to punctures, tears, and stress. Stretch film adheres to itself, eliminating the need for additional adhesives or tapes. It protects goods from moisture, dust, dirt, and light exposure to UV rays.

Where should stretch film be disposed of?

Stretch film is made of plastic, so it should be disposed of in the yellow bin designated for plastic and metal waste.

What colours are stretch films available in?

The most common colours of stretch film are clear, black, and blue. The choice of colour depends on specific needs, such as load protection, identification, or aesthetic considerations. Clear film allows for quick identification of the load’s contents, black film protects against UV rays and prevents identification of contents, while coloured films can be used for aesthetic reasons or for load coding.

What is stretch film made of?

Stretch film is made from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), which is a type of plastic. The primary material is polyethylene granulate (LLDPE), and other additives depend on the type of film and the manufacturer. These can include UV stabilizers, dyes, antistatic agents, and adhesion modifiers.

      What are microns?

Microns are a unit of length used for measurements in the micro and nanoscale. In manufacturing and packaging, such as stretch film or food wrap, thickness is often expressed in microns (e.g., 20 µm). 1 micron = 1 µm = 0.001 mm = 10⁻⁶ meter (one millionth of a meter).

Clear stretch film or coloured stretch film – which one to choose?

Black and coloured stretch film is used to protect against UV radiation, cover contents (e.g., to prevent theft), or for pallet coding. Transparent (colourless) stretch film, on the other hand, makes it easier to quickly identify the contents of packages.

What thickness of stretch film should you choose?

It depends on the load you need to secure with the film. Standard values range from 12 µm to 35 µm. Thinner films (12–17 µm) are used for light loads, while thicker films (20–35 µm) are used for heavy or sharp loads. The thickness of the film affects the price (the thicker, the more expensive), so it is worth conducting tests in the warehouse to select the most cost-effective option that will still be sufficient to properly secure the goods.

What is the difference between the net and gross weight of stretch film?

Net weight and gross weight are important distinctions when it comes to stretch film. Make sure to verify how much film is actually on the roll. Some offers list the gross weight (including the core), while others list the net weight (the weight of the film itself). Failing to verify this information may result in comparing prices for two different products.
