    Coloured polyethylene foam

Do you use PE foam to make various creative things in bulk (e.g. decorations, costumes, etc.)? Or do you want the packaging to refer to your brand colours?

You can order foam in any colour you like from us! Tell us about your idea and we will help you realise it!

"Some time ago, we introduced optimisation for PE foam to a large company. Previously, the warehouse staff used several sizes and thicknesses of PE foam on rolls and many different dimensions of foam sheets.
Currently, the company orders one type of PE foam of one thickness with perforation. The owners have invested in special unwinders under each packer's workstation and have thus standardised the process. They save space in the warehouse and have reduced waste and errors in picking up foam by workers.’"

    Strength test

We tested how the 10-mm-thick PE foam copes under the pressure of the trolley. In addition, we weighted it with parcels to increase the pressure.

    Test results:

    • Pressure resistance - the foam was not damaged even under heavy trolleys and parcels.
    • Resilience - PE foam quickly returns to its original shape when the load is removed.
    • Durability - it is a reliable protective material, ideal for transport and storage.

Our PE foam effectively protects products against mechanical damage, moisture, dirt and scratches. Thanks to these characteristics, it is readily used, for example, in the furniture industry, where very heavy products are often transported.

    FAQ

What uses does polyethylene foam have?

Polyethylene (PE) foam is a versatile material with a wide range of applications thanks to its unique properties such as lightness, flexibility, impact resistance, water resistance and thermal and acoustic insulation. It can be used to wrap products, protecting them from shocks and impacts during transport. It is ideal for separating products from each other or protecting cartons on a pallet from getting wet. It is used in the construction industry as acoustic and thermal insulation. In agriculture and horticulture it is used to protect plants from frost. It is also popular in the assembly of various equipment and machines (as a technical pad). PE foam can also be found in everyday life as part of utility products (fitness mats, baby changing facilities, car seats, etc.).

Can polyethylene (PE) foam be coloured?

Yes, PE foam can be tinted as desired. At Mac-Graf we carry out such orders for customers (wholesale quantities).

What properties does polyethylene (PE) foam have?

Polyethylene foam has a number of properties that make it a widely used material in many industries. It is waterproof, insulating (dampens and protects against frost), shock-absorbing (effectively protects products protected with it against damage from shocks and impacts), flexible (quickly returns to its original shape once the pressure stops), lightweight (thanks to which it does not significantly increase the weight of shipments), chemically inert (does not interact with products protected with it), mould-resistant and odourless. The material is widely used, for example, in the furniture, construction and renovation sectors.

    What are expansion joints?

Expansion joints are components used in the construction industry whose main function is to compensate for stresses and prevent cracks and damage in various parts of the structure. They are placed at what are known as expansion joints and are made of materials with sufficient flexibility and strength, such as polyethylene (PE) foam.

What thermal conductivity coefficient does PE foam have?

Polyethylene (PE) foam has a low thermal conductivity coefficient, which makes it an excellent insulation material. A typical thermal conductivity coefficient (λ) value for PE foam is 0.035-0.045 W/(m-K). This value is influenced by the density of the foam, the thickness of the material and the environmental conditions. Please refer to the product specifications for specific information in each case.

Where to dispose of polyethylene (PE) foam?

Polyethylene foam should be disposed of in the yellow plastic and metal bin for recycling.

What is the density of polyethylene (PE) foam?

The density of polyethylene foam varies depending on its type. You can choose lightweight (low density) foam, the most common then: 15-35 kg/m³. Medium density foam is usually 35-100 kg/m³, and high density foams (HDPE) are usually: 100-300 kg/m³. At Mac-Graf, we produce SONG foam with reduced density (ideal for securing products in transit): 15-20 kg/m³. If you need higher density foam – you can also come to us, because, due to the network of trusted suppliers we have developed over 30 years, our range is more than 11,000 products.

Polyethylene Foam – Characteristics and Properties

Polyethylene foam is a highly versatile material widely used in the packaging industry due to its protective properties and broad application potential. At Mac-Graf, we offer specialized PE foam formats tailored for a wide range of industries.

Its closed-cell structure, combined with lightweight, flexibility, and resistance to mechanical and environmental factors, makes PE foam a top choice for protective packaging.

Thanks to its closed-cell composition, polyethylene foam does not absorb moisture, making it resistant to water, mold, and mildew. It also offers excellent chemical resistance – it remains unaffected by most substances including detergents, solvents, and oils. This makes it a trusted solution in both the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Another key advantage is its exceptional shock absorption. PE foam effectively cushions delicate items during transport, reduces vibrations, and minimizes pressure impact. It’s often used as a void-fill, cushioning, or spacer material in packaging fragile or high-value goods.

Polyethylene foam also provides thermal and acoustic insulation, helping reduce heat loss and dampen noise. These features make it a valuable material in construction and renovation projects.

Importantly, PE foam is non-toxic, physiologically inert, and safe for contact with food and hygiene-sensitive items. It’s non-dusting, non-marking, and easy to convert, which extends its usability across various sectors.

Polyethylene Foam – applications across industries

Thanks to its unique properties, PE foam is used across a wide range of industries.

In logistics and e-commerce, it serves as a protective packaging material for fragile items, providing shock absorption and preventing cracks, scratches, and damage during transit.

In the moving industry, PE foam is commonly used to protect furniture, electronics, home appliances, and glass or ceramic products from impact and surface damage.

In construction, polyethylene foam acts as an underlay for floor panels, screeds, and laminates. Its insulating properties help reduce noise transmission and heat loss. It’s also used in concrete and wall structures to prevent stress transfer—often in the form of expansion joint strips.

In the automotive industry, PE foam is used to produce insulating components and vibration-damping elements. Its resistance to deformation makes it ideal for soundproofing systems and interior protection components in vehicles.

In the glass industry, PE foam acts as a protective separator, preventing cracks and chipping during storage and transportation.

It is also suitable as packaging for electronic components, providing anti-scratch protection and light impact resistance.

PE Foam manufacturer – available variants and specifications

As a manufacturer of PE foam, Mac-Graf offers a wide range of products suitable for various applications.

You can order standard white polyethylene foam, but if you require a specific color, we also provide custom coloring services. The color of your packaging and its internal cushioning can significantly impact the aesthetics and branding of your shipment, making it worth considering a consistent and professional appearance.

We offer PE foams in multiple density levels—from lightweight and flexible variants to denser, more rigid types that provide enhanced protection against damage. Our range also includes SONG polyethylene foam, a low-density version that is lighter than standard foam. This makes it especially well-suited for protecting delicate or breakable items that are prone to scratching or chipping.

Mac-Graf’s PE foam is available in the form of sheets, rolls, and expansion joint strips. We also offer perforated foam rolls, allowing for easy tear-off at predefined lengths, which improves efficiency during packing.

In addition, we supply laminated PE foams, which can be coated with LDPE film, PET film, self-adhesive layers, or nonwoven fabric for added functionality and versatility.

For custom packaging solutions, we also manufacture die-cut foam inserts and shapes made from PE or cross-linked PE (XPE). These are aesthetically pleasing, durable, and designed to securely hold and stabilize products, tailored precisely to your specifications.
